HOGAR MADRE ANNA VITIELLO
ORPHANAGE FOR HIV+ CHILDREN
About HOGAR MADRE ANNA VITIELLO
A home for 60 children with HIV. They have 10 babies 0 to 1, 13 children from 2 to 4 and 40 children from 5 to 13, mostly boys. 40 children go to school in the mornings and the rest stay at the home during the day. The school is called Laura Vicuña and has children from the community that pay Q20 per month, making a total of 150 children. They have a computer lab, a library, 2 storage rooms and 5 classrooms, 1st. grade, 2nd grade, 3rd and 4th grades (together), 5th grade and 6th grade. Inside the home there’s a clinic with 2 nurses where the babies stay and where they keep all the medication for the children. They also have a therapy room, a big chapel for early masses (6:30 am), kitchen, laundry room and a huge playground.
It was founded in 2005 by Madre Anna Vitiello and it is supported by donations, both internationals and nationals.
Although they are a catholic establishment, it is not required that the volunteers are Christian. Most of the kids from the community are not catholic.
